BUYING
It is hoped that your purchasing will be enjoyable and straightforward.
Please ask staff if you have any queries regarding an item or its likely
price. The estimates are guide prices only. Please register before the
sale in order to get a Bidding Number. Your account will then be prepared
in your name at the reception office. Goods can be collected during the
sale from the collections counter.
WRITTEN BIDS
If you cannot attend the sale, we will be delighted to bid on your
behalf, and there is no charge for this service. Please fill in a green
Bid Form and it will be executed as cheaply as possible, subject to other
bids and vendors reserves. Similarly, if you have to leave during
actual auction and would like to leave a bid on something being sold later
on that day, ask a porter to bid on your behalf using a Bid Form, or hand
the Bid Form in at reception. You
can also leave
a bid online by completing the online
form on this website.
TELEPHONE BIDS
If you cannot attend the sale, you can bid on the telephone for lots.
The number of telephone lines is limited and they need to be booked in
advance, and will be issued on a first come first served basis.
PAYMENT
By cheque or cash. Buyers unknown to us are advised to make arrangements
before the sale for references, as cheques must be cleared before purchases
can be removed. A Buyers Premium of 15% will be charged to the purchaser
on the hammer price; this Premium is subject to VAT.
COLLECTIONS
All purchases should be paid for on the day of the auction, and collected
as soon as possible on the day of the auction, or by arrangement. Please
note that all goods will be removed into store shortly after the auction.
These items will incur carriage and storage charges. All clearing is at
the purchasers risk and expense, although our staff will assist
as much as possible with packing and carrying. If you have any queries
about collections, or are delayed in picking up purchases, please contact
the office.
POSTAGE & PACKING
We can post and pack to the best of our ability, but cannot be held
responsible for any damage that occurs to the goods once they become the
purchasers property. A reasonable packing charge will be made to cover
this service and the materials used, plus the level of postage and insurance
that you require. Things take time to get sorted and totally unpacked
after an auction, so please allow time for your parcel to be dealt with.
We
are not a shipping company but will pack and post suitable items if given
precise instruction by the purchaser. On "the fall of the hammer",
if successful, the items become your goods. Purchasers must then pay for
their items on receipt of the invoice. As soon as items are paid for,
they will go into the queue for despatch, postage and packing. Please
give precise instructions on exactly how you would like items sent. We
will then act on your instructions and bill you accordingly.
Postage quotes - due to the unique and varied nature of auction items,
it is not possible to give exact postage/shipping quotes in advance of
the sale. We recommend that you see below for a few examples of past postage/shipping
costs. Or (especially for overseas buyers) contact your local shipping
companies in advance of bidding to obtain a quote yourself. For larger
items buyers are advised to make their own collection and shipping arrangements.
All purchases must leave our warehouse within one month of the auction,
or storage fees will be applied.
Delivery time - please be aware that if the purchase is not collected
from the sale venue, it will then have to be packed and returned to our
warehouse in North Northumberland. Due to the time required to pack, transport
and unpack, it will not be possible to start posting any items until two
weeks after the sale.
